Food Products
Schools can promote the selling of Fairtrade food and drink products in a number of situations, in conjunction with the government’s ‘Healthy Schools’ programme: |
|
|
- in the staffroom
- at school functions e.g. school plays / concerts
- at parents’ evenings
- in a school tuckshop
- at breakfast clubs
|
|
They can choose to source these products, as part of the Healthy Schools campaign, from suppliers (see SGFTN directory) or through advice from the South Gloucestershire Traded and Support Services (SGTSS). SGTSS has been involved in using Fairtrade products for some time in South Gloucestershire schools. It has a number of posters available for display in schools to promote its support.
Advice can be obtained through
or
(Area managers).
In particular, SGTSS supports the use of Fairtrade goods in its lunchtime menus, for example pasta – based dishes. It would be keen to assist with functions, particularly incorporating a Fairtrade promotional lunch menu on one day during Fairtrade fortnight. About 20 primary and six secondary schools running breakfast clubs offer Fairtrade tea and coffee at competitive prices both for pupils and parents.
