Watan Nkpe is a rice grower in Ghana. He used to make a reasonable living from his rice grop, but in recent years Ghana has been flooded with heavily subsidised cheap rice from 'Northern' suppliers. This means that Watan can no longer make a living from his farm. He relies on charitable hand outs of rice, which at least puts food on his table, BUT:

  • Cannot afford to send his children to school.
  • Cannot afford medical care for his family.
  • No way to rebuild his business - no access to loans, marketing or business help.
  • Low self esteme due to his broken business.
